Substitutes may work a maximum of 18 hours in a child care program per week. Substitutes do not have a minimum requirement of how many hours they can work in a child care program. Substitutes are Part-Time Western Oregon University employees.

Are substitutes eligible for benefits?

Due to the nature of the work, substitutes are not eligible for health benefits. Substitutes will earn one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked.

What types of professional development opportunities does CCSO offer?

Substitutes are required to maintain their 15 hours of continued professional development to work in child care programs. CCSO provides all required and ongoing professional development opportunities for our substitutes.

In some circumstances, substitutes may need to complete additional training required by Western Oregon University (a requirement separate from their child care related training).
