Forming connections to support the well-being of Oregon’s communities

Child Care Substitutes of Oregon recruits, hires, and trains substitutes to work in programs statewide. All substitutes receive support from a regional supervisor, access to 15 hours of paid professional development annually, and competitive wages.

Eligibility Requirements for Part Time Substitutes

• At least 18 years old
• Legally able to work in the United States
• Food Handler Certification
• Pediatric CPR and First Aid 
• Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety, 
• Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN)
• Foundations for Learning
• Safe Sleep for Oregon’s Infants
• Enrolled in the Central Background Registry

 Part Time Substitute Work Requirements; Part Time Substitutes must apply for at least one job per month and can work up to 72 hours per month, or an average of 18 hours per week.

• Visit the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care for how to complete the Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety, Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN), Foundations for Learning, and Safe Sleep for Oregon’s Infants. It’s free!
• Connect with your local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency to find a local Pediatric CPR/First Aid class.
• Complete the online Food Handler Certification with Central Coordination. It’s free!
